An Enduring History in our Community

Founded as Good Hope Baptist Church, the building at 950 Ridge Avenue in St. Clair has served as a house of worship for various area congregations. Land for the church was purchased from James N. and Hattie M Inge on February 18, 1878 by Good Hope trustees James shores, Joseph Jackson, Daniel Webster, Scott Turner, Isaac Renfro and Thomas Hurley. Land for the adjacent cemetery was donated by Isaac Renfro. Other congregations whom have held services here throughout the years include the Church of the Nazarene, the Freewill Baptist Church, the Church of Un-Denomination, Oak Ridge Baptist Church and First United Pentecostal. The doors of the church closed in 1997 until Easter (Resurrection Sunday) 2009, when Pastor Billy Brison and seven faithful members had a vision to open the doors and restore the aging building. Since that day Good Hope has become a non-denominational, culturally diverse body of believers with a vision to spread the Word of God.
